Video Watch Percentage & Video Viewing Restrictions โ Progress Tracking Workflow
1. Progress Tracking Interval
Video watch progress is updated every 5 minutes.
A user must watch the video for at least 5 continuous minutes for progress to be saved.
2. User Interaction-Based Updates
Progress is updated instantly when the user performs any of the following actions:
Seeking / moving the progress bar
Pausing the video
Playing / resuming the video
These actions trigger a progress update even if the 5-minute interval is not completed.
3. Inactivity & New Attempt Creation (48-Hour Rule)
If a user starts a video and does not watch it again within 48 hours, the attempt becomes inactive.
When the user resumes watching after 48 hours, the system automatically creates a new attempt.
Previous progress remains saved but is not continued.
4. Required Watch Percentage Logic
If a Required Watch Percentage is set:
Once the user watches equal to or more than the required percentage, the video is marked as Completed.
If the user revisits the video after completion:
A new attempt is created.
This happens because the original attempt is already finalised.
5. Completion Status Handling
Once marked as Completed:
The existing attempt will no longer update.
Any future playback creates a fresh attempt.
Quick Summary
Progress updates every 5 minutes or on user action
48 hours inactive โ new attempt
Completion based on required watch percentage
Rewatch after completion โ new attempt created
Video Viewing Restrictions:
The system allows restriction of video access based on:
- Number of views (attempts)
- Watch duration limits
- Required percentage completion
If both views and duration restrictions are enabled: The video will be blocked when any one of the limits is exhausted.
A) Limit by Number of Views
You can set the number of times a student can watch a video.
- Example:
If the view limit is set to 1, and required percentage is also set:- Once the student watches and completes the required percentage,
- If they close the app and open the video again,
- It will be counted as the second attempt.
If the limit is exceeded โ Video access will be blocked.
Leave the field blank for Unlimited Views.
B) Limit by Watch Duration (Course-Level Restriction)
You can restrict total watch time based on the courseโs total video duration.
How It Works
- Suppose a course contains 10 videos.
- Total video duration = 60 minutes.
- If you set the multiplier to 2,
- Students can watch up to 120 minutes total across the course.
Once the total watch time limit is reached: Further video playback will be blocked.
C) View Video Stats
Admins can monitor:
- Number of attempts
Percentage completed - Total watch time
- Reset all stats
This helps track student engagement and enforce restrictions properly.
Quick Summary
View limits can restrict number of attempts
Duration limits restrict total watch time
If either limit is exhausted โ Video access is blocked
